FACULTY SENATE MINUTES

May 20, 2003

 

Dr. George Cronk, Chair of the Senate, called the meeting to order at 3:20 p.m., after the annual Senate luncheon held at Biagio’s.

 

             I.      REVIEW OF MINUTES:  The April 22, 2003, Faculty Senate Minutes were approved without objection.

 

          II.      CHAIRPERSON’S REPORT:

Dr. Cronk reported that at the May 13 Senate Officers’ Executive meeting with the President, the following items were discussed:

Ø      Geese are aggressive, particularly at the door of the TEC Building.

Ø      The special scheduling committee will begin meeting this week to attempt to arrive at a systematic master scheduling plan.  They will also look at other colleges’ scheduling patterns.

Ø      The 2003-2004 Tuesday schedule was distributed via email; one date (January 30) was inadvertently omitted, so it will be sent again soon.

 

       III.      COMMITTEE REPORTS:

A.     Dr. Cronk reported that the course, “BIO-130 People-Plant Relationships,” was added to the list of General Education courses; materials on this course were distributed to the Senators. He also submitted as part of the General Education Committee's report to the Senate Professor Jean Goldstein's "Thoughts on the State of Transfer in New Jersey – 2003" (see "Other Documents" at www.bergen.edu/facultyhome/senate.asp).

B.     Professor Laurie Hodge reported that the Ad Hoc Faculty Constitution Committee will report to the Senate at the next meeting.

 

        IV.      ELECTION OF OFFICERS FOR 2003-2004

           V.      OLD BUSINESS:  SR-I 2002/2003 Core Competencies

The Senate accepted this proposal except for a slight change in one of the Core Competencies, PERSONAL SKILLS.  This item will now read:

PERSONAL SKILLS—Students will demonstrate an awareness of ethics, values, personal responsibility, and an ability to understand and manage themselves and their commitments.

PASSED:  25-8-3

 

        VI.      NEW BUSINESS:  none.

 

The meeting was adjourned at 4 p.m.
