FACULTY SENATE MINUTES

January 20, 2004

Dr. George Cronk, Chair of the Senate, called the meeting to order at 3:55 p.m.

                      I.         REVIEW OF MINUTES:  The December 9, 2003, Faculty Senate Minutes were approved without objection.

                   II.         CHAIRPERSON’S REPORT:

1.            Dr. Cronk reported that the presentation of the proposed Faculty Constitution for the faculty’s approval has been postponed until the April 27, 2004, General Faculty Conference. The Constitution Committee had not focused on “Appendix A,” and questions have been raised regarding that part of the Constitution. Professor Joan Cohen, the current Chair of the Nominations and Elections Committee, will join the Constitution Committee. The Committee wants more time to consider any questions about “Appendix A” and to see whether the organization and representation plans are legitimate before bringing it before the entire faculty.

2.            There has been a change in the Tuesday schedule; namely, Faculty Development Workshop will now meet on April 6, and Division/Department Meetings (Elect Senators) will be held on April 13. These two events were switched to avoid the Division/Department meetings being held on the first day of Passover.

3.            A Senate representative is needed on the Middle States Steering Committee. An election was held for this position, and three people were nominated:  Gene Calderon, Alan Kaufman, and Carol Miele.  Alan Kaufman was elected to be the Senate’s representative to the Middle States Steering Committee.

III.         COMMITTEE REPORTS:  Senator Peter Helff, Chair of the Good and Welfare Committee, reported that both Dr. Carlo Annese and Dr. John Patierno lost a parent last week.  A moment of silence was observed in memory of these parents.
