held at Biagio’s Restaurant.
I.
REVIEW OF MINUTES: The April 20, 2004, Faculty Senate

II. CHAIRPERSON’S
REPORT:
A. Tuesday
Meeting Calendar. Send corrections (if any) to the Secretary. If no corrections

B. Institutional
Assessment and Learning Outcomes Assessment.
1.
Institutional Assessment: President Winn is creating a
college-wide Institutional Assessment Committee. This is in line with the
ongoing emphasis on assessment issues at the College and is strongly encouraged
by such organizations as the Middle-States Association of Colleges and Schools.
2.
Learning Outcomes Assessment. A proposal to create a
standing sub-committee of the Curriculum Committee will be presented to the
Senate in the fall. The purpose of the special sub-committee is to give focused
attention to issues related to learning assessment.
C. Remedial Math Proposal. Dr. Winn’s response to
SR-A-2003/2004 was as follows: “I agree conceptually with not permitting
students to delay math until the end of the academic careers. However, there
are many issues that affect the implementation of this proposal that need to be
addressed. I will be appointing a study group to review these issues and report
back to me on their findings and recommendations.”
A motion was made to ask the President
to permit the Senate to appoint or elect a Senator of its own choice to serve
on the study group.
PASSED:
25 – 15 – 3.
III. COMMITTEE

Dr. George Cronk distributed a two-sided
sheet (on one side is a memo from him to BCC Faculty Senate and on the other
