FACULTY SENATE MINUTES
March 26, 2002
Room S134

Chairperson Dr. George Cronk called the meeting to order at 3:55 p.m.

I. REVIEW OF MINUTES: The Senate approved the February 19, 2002 Faculty Senate minutes as presented without objection.

II. CHAIRPERSON'S REPORT:
Dr. Cronk read a document he had prepared in which he praised Dr. Steve Ryan for all his good work as a loyal faculty member, Department Head, BCCFA Officer, Faculty Senator, and a caring person with a concern for others. He then gave opportunity for others to speak on behalf of Dr. Ryan. Steve is greatly missed by all. (See Tribute to Steve Ryan.)

III. COMMITTEE REPORTS: General Education Report. (See report dated February 6, 2002.)
Dr. Cronk relinquished the Chair to Dr. Judith Davis so that he could speak on behalf of the report.

IV. OLD BUSINESS: Three-Year Calendar (Spring 2003 through Summer 2005)
A motion was made to separate the motion and vote on it as such: (1) Spring 2003 through Summer 2005 and (2) the Alternate/Emergency Calendar covering Spring through Summer of 2003. When the discussion uncovered a possible problem with the Fall 2004 Calendar, an amendment was then made to vote on only the calendars of Spring 2003 through summer of 2004.

The vote on the Spring 2003 Alternate/Emergency Calendar was:
DEFEATED: 1-40-3

V. NEW BUSINESS:
Special Topic: The Parking Situation at BCC (Professor Richard Comerford. Professor Comerford presented his views on the parking situation, after which a lengthy discussion ensued.
A motion was made for a resolution: that the Faculty Senate urge the Administration to find a short-term solution, doing whatever is necessary, to ensure proper parking spaces for faculty.
Amendments made to this motion were:
(1) Urge the Administration to provide security officer(s) to guard lots for faculty teaching until after 10 p.m.
(2) Urge the Administration to review prior reports and suggestions on the parking situation that have been submitted (for example, the recent document from the Division of Business, Math, and Social Sciences)
(3) Urge the Administration to allow faculty teaching at night to park in "the circle" and in the 14 Directors' spots in Lot W, noting that most administrators and Directors leave at 5 p.m.
