| Title:
Nantucket Chair Apparent It was mid-October when I photographed this scene from the porch of the Wauwinet Inn on Nantucket, off the coast of Cape Cod. The great summer crowds had already left a month earlier for their homes on the mainland. The humor in the scene struck me immediately. How could one not be amused by these very carefully placed, yet exceedingly empty lounge chairs, as they all looked out on the ocean and dune view beyond! It was as though the chairs themselves were the occupants...and I imagined waiters scurrying about between. The title came easily once the piece was finished: "Heir Apparent" gave way to "Chair Apparent." |
