Students,
In order to get the most out of the class and the
course of study, I want to clearly
communicate my expectations with respect to the conduct of class and the
academic work. Please take the time to read this thoroughly and ask any
questions if you donÕt fully understand the points.
Feel free to email me
anytime using WebCT or – whuisking@bergen.edu
-to discuss the course, the topics, or the assignments. My goal is to expose
you many of the business disciplines under the general umbrella of the term
ÒBusinessÓ. (Refer to my attached background experience and the course outline
for more detail).
v You will get out of this class
what you put in. Since you are interested in the business disciplines and the
opportunities it may offer, I am looking forward to working with you in this endeavor. The more time and effort you put
in, the more you will be able to make this class a rewarding and enjoyable
educational experience. You are adults ! I will treat you like adults.
v Students are expected to read
the assigned chapters prior
to class thus ready to participate in discussions. The Class Participation
portion of the grade will not be below the average for the tests. Therefore the
tests can actually represent a
higher portion of your earned grade. For those of you who come regularly
and participate, you can achieve a higher grade by the fact that you contribute
in this fashion. Again, you will not be penalized for this portion by getting
below the average for your quizes.
v In fairness to all, I
support a no-makeup policy
for tests. If I can not set up the
tests to be satisfactorily taken
on line in WebCT, I will set aside class time for taking the tests. In this
case where the tests are given in class, if a student takes all tests given during the
semester- the lowest score is dropped. This allows the ability for a student to
miss one of the quizzes
scheduled during the semester.
v In class, everyone will be
afforded a high degree of respect and will be treated with dignity. I have zero
tolerance for anything less. All participants will treat one another in a
respectful, courteous, and dignified manner. To maintain a reasonable degree of
order in the class, please raise hand to be recognized for making comments or
asking questions.
v Open dialogue is strongly
encouraged both in and out of the class. If, in pursuit of this goal, I (or
another class participant) says or does something that is perceived as being
disrespectful and/or inappropriate, it certainly is not intended nor will be tolerated. Please let me know immediately in class, in private, or by email so that we can
clear up any misunderstanding.
v Assignments are expected on
time. As a rule, as written above,
make-ups are not a part of my class policy.
v Arrive in class on time, stay
in class during session, turn OFF cell phones, and respect others by not eating
or drinking in class.
