This Resource Area is a collection of links,
information, and other online resources which should help
your online and web-enhanced courses. Some of the information
is specific to courses I teach, and some of it more general.
Since I use this Resource Area for all my courses not every
thing found here will apply to your particular course. Use
the information here with judgment. If you have questions,
ask them in class or online, as appropriate.
A word of warning is in order: there are many
links throughout the course content materials. Often these
links take you to a directory listing of links that are
relevant to the topic we are exploring. Use directory
listings wisely. Not all links are equal. In fact, anyone can
put up a web site, and claim to be an expert. In general,
value links to online resources located at colleges,
universities more than links to personal site.
Further, if you are taking one of my religious
courses, keep in mind that the subject of religion often
rouses passions. There are some very good sites on the
Internet about religion that also advocate for a particular
religion. Do not reject a site
simply because it supports a religious viewpoint which is not
your own. Rather, remain objective; be
philosophical. Sometimes looking at materials
that conflict with your own view can be an important learning
opportunity.
I do not claim to be knowledgeable about all the
religions in the world, much less an expert. (One of my
fields of study is the philosophy of religion.) As a result,
I may draw sometimes more heavily upon those traditions that
I am most familiar with to illustrate points in class. If you
discover sites or information about religions that are
relevant to the class, please let me know about them. In
fact, you'll find a special place in the course Discussions
area to post these links.
