Current Projects

In addition to teaching English composition 1 and 2,  and such literature courses as World Literature 1 and 2, Women in Literature, Eastern and Central European Literature, and Children's Literature, not counting the occasional American Literature course, I am involved in a number of college-wide programs.

Honors Program Co-Director

Since September 2007, I have co-directed the Honors Program with Dr. Dorothy Altman, a rewarding and time-consuming (yes!) position that involves scheduling Honors courses across the curriculum see www.bergen.edu/honors, supervising all the related operations such as contacting students, answering their questions via e-mail, phone, or in person, working with the New Jersey STARS, advising the Honors Association, our vibrant student club for all current and prospective Honors students. See www.bergenhonors.ning.com. We both enjoy this job very much. Following on the best practices of our predecessors, we have expanded the Honors Program course offerings, and recruited even more students to join the Program. The benefits of taking Honors are clear: priority registration, small classes of motivated individuals, excellent professors, and the distinction of graduating with an Honors Diploma, with the gold and red tassel and cord. := Even one Honors course on student transfer papers is advantageous... Not to mention the expanded opportunities to make friends with like-minded students through the study groups and event participation. :=

Women's Studies Program Coordinator

Our Women's Studies Program has offered a WMST degree for twenty-five years now! We just celebrated the anniversary in 2008.

The requirement to graduate with this option is simple. Student must take at least two courses offered by the Women's Studies program in addition to the General Education requirements. We offer several excellent choices. See www.bergen.edu/ws

The advantages of taking a Women's Studies degree are many: your diploma will have a note of it, and potential employers and four-year college recruiters will see you as a progressive, well-rounded candidate that shows commitment to community. See the career flyer at http://www.bergen.edu/ws/career%20flyer.pdf

The Polish Culture Club Co-Adviser

The Polish Culture Club at Bergen, has been advised by Dr. Robert Wiater for many years. Ever since I came to Bergen in 2000, I have been involved with the Club. See www.bergen.edu/pcc. The Club has a growing membership, not surprisingly so, since students of Polish descent constitute one of the three largest national groups at Bergen, side-by-side with the Colombian and Korean students.

The Women's History Month Committee

Every March, the Women's History Month Committee I am a member of, organizes a full calendar of events to celebrate women's contributions to our society and the world. As we know very well, women have not yet achieved an equal, or even comparable, position with men, nor have they obtained equal recognition for their achievements. The calendar of events is available at the beginning of the spring semester in the News at www.bergen.edu.
