Separate a part of your 3-ring binder for the Reading Journal.
Insert a cover page with the book title and your name.
For each chapter of the book write a one-page summary.  Use your own words.
For each chapter of the book write a page long double-entry response.   Follow the given format.

Write a quotation from the book you are reading here.  Use quotation marls and add the page number for reference.

 

On this side you will write about your life - what comes to your mind when you think about the sentence on the left side.

Suggestions: in your responses you may write about reactions - your ideas about the sentence, questions - what confused you, feelings - your feelings about what the sentence says, language - observations about the way the author uses the language, including grammar, vocabulary, idioms, etc., thought - your comments on an issue that the book raises (divorce, roles of men and women, racism, injustice, education, religion, etc.), memories - what the sentence brings to mind from your past, connections - comparisons or contrasts with similar things, predictions: what do you think is going to happen next.
