Hello, my name is Professor Lucy Caruso Dean, Head of the Business Department.

Welcome to Bergen Community College!

I understand you are interested in Information Technology at Bergen Community College. Well, we have many different areas that you can study. If you’re very creative, you might be interested in the Web Development curriculum. However, if you’re a hands-on type of person, perhaps the Networking Technologies Program would be the thing for you—getting your hands into the wires, pulling wires, and networking all the computers. Also, if you’re the helpful type of person, you might want to consider the Help Desk Certificate that we have at Bergen Community College. But whatever your interests are in Information Technology, be it programming—if you’re a programmer, if you’re a software developer, or if you just want to do networking and web development—we surely will have a program of study designed specifically for you.
Perhaps, you’re one that would like to work in a hotel in a big corporation. You might want to be a meeting planner, or you might want to work at the front desk, or you might want to one day be the hotel manager. Well, we have the management aspect of the Hotel Restaurant Hospitality degree that you could concentrate on. However, you might be one that’s very creative in culinary arts. We also have the student that one day wants to open a restaurant, or perhaps work in the banquet halls of that big hotel. We will teach you how to do all the different specialty dishes, from the appetizer to the pastries and delicious desserts. So whatever your desire in Hospitality and Tourism, Bergen Community has something for you.
Bergen Community College will give you two solid years of the Basic Accounting degree that you would get at the four-year school. You would—after finishing the Accounting degree here at Bergen Community College, which is the Associate Applied Science degree—you would be able to go into an entry-level position, taking care of opening the books, closing the books, ledgers. You would be able to do simple tax returns. And then, perhaps, you would want to go on for your CPA, which would require a Bachelor’s degree.
You would then take your knowledge that you have from Bergen Community College, transfer to a four-year school, and major in Accounting, and take the advanced courses that are necessary to sit for the CPA exam. And, perhaps, one day be an entrepreneur, and want to take the Certificate Program in Entrepreneurship, and set up your own little private practice as a Certified Public Accountant. So, whatever you want in Accounting, there’s many different aspects that you can go: public, private, or corporations. There’s always a need for accounting, and they are in great demand today.
The Paralegal Program here will train, will educate, our students, and it’s a certified program—The American Bar Association certified our program—so that you will go into a law office or a corporation, and you would work side-by-side with the attorney. You would prepare all documents; you would do most of the research. The only thing that you will not be permitted to do would be to enter the courtroom or to collect fees, because that is a licensed lawyer. You would have to be, actually go to law school, and be like, but, other than that, the paralegal does most of the work that goes on in a law office. And if one day you decide to come to Bergen Community College and be a nurse, we have a program that’s specifically for registered nurses, that they will study to be nurse consultants in many lawsuits, in, you know, medical malpractice industry suits, that these are trained, the legal nurse consultants are trained, to testify in court, so they will know all the legal aspects about the health industry.
