Here’s the Academic Advising Center.

Let’s see what kind of help we can get in here.

I’m here with Professor Gene Calderon.

Hi, it’s nice to meet you.

Hi, how are you?

What kind of help can a student expect to find here at the Academic Advising Center?

Basically, we’re starting out with general information, and we have the faculty giving out just basic general information. So if a student walks in with a good question, wants a good question answered, that kind of a thing, we can just give that person that information right here. We’re also doing something a little different for brand new students. We do advising sessions for them, which gives a brief orientation, and then we work with them in terms of actually registering them and showing them how to register. That’s basically what we do here. The other thing that we try to do is every so often during the semester, we have transfer counselors in, and students who have quick questions again on transfer issues can come in on certain days at certain times and talk to a transfer counselor without an appointment.
So, if a student had questions about credits for a certain program, a certain degree, could they come in and ask you during those transfer days?
Exactly, that’s all you’d have to do. We’d also print out a program evaluation so that, for example, you want to know “How many credits do I need to have for my degree? What courses are taken that fit? Which ones don’t?” We can also just print out a program evaluation for you. This way you don’t even have to worry about that in terms of “Oh, Okay, what do I need to do?”—you can do that right here and now. We show you how to use Web Advisor so you can do it at home as well.
That’s pretty good. Yeah. Okay, bye, thanks a lot, Professor. Okay, take care. Bye-bye.
