COURSE CREDITS/HOURS: 3 lectures, 3 credits
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Mass Media of Communication is a study of the print and broadcast media. The roles of media in society, a history of media and the legal control of media are explored.

COURSE OBJECTIVES/STUDENT OUTCOMES:
1. To give an overview of the history and development of each media;
2. To learn the basics of how each of the media functions;
3. To Consider the different functions of the media,e.g., entertainment, information, education;
4. To investigate current development in the media;
5. To discuss the media’s impact on society;
6. To compare and contrast the different media.

CRITICAL THINKING:

Students should be encouraged through classroom discussions to analyze the impact of mass media on society. The impact of mass media on past, present and future events should be included in this analysis.

WRITING ACTIVITY:

All students in the Mass Media of Communications course will be expected to engage in one ore more written assignments. These assignments may be essay questions on one or more tests, an essay test or a short term paper based on outside readings or activities.

STUDENT EVALUATION:

In determining student grades, a minimum of three grading mechanisms are to be employed. They may include multiple choice, matching and fill-in questions; essay type questions and/or a written term project or report are to be employed to enable students to develop skills of logical thinking and presentation as well as skills of critical analysis.
