Text: Communication: Making Connections, by Seiler and Beall 6th Edition
Course Description: Through practical speaking assignments, the student will learn and apply methods in organizing, delivering, and evaluating formal and informal speeches. The course includes communication theory, analysis of effective speaking, interpersonal, and intrapersonal communication.
The Speech Communication course provides the student with a variety of practical speaking situations that directly relate to other course work and to life situations. Through practice in content, organization, delivery, and evaluation of speeches, the student should become more confident in oral communication, both public and interpersonal
Course Objectives:
1. To explore the nature of listening
2. To develop an ability to speak effectively in personal, social, academic, and business situations
3. To participate effectively in discussion groups
4. To discover the body of research in the field of related content areas of SPE-111
5. To understand the impact of messages in our society
6. To explore interpersonal skills
