Cold Mountain is a story about a Confederate soldier named Inman who deserted the war to find his way back to his home in Cold Mountain.  He had many conflicts and experiences on his way back home.  He was killed by a young man after he survived many life threatening situations.

Inman

	Inman was a Confederate soldier in the Civil War.
	He was wounded in battle.
	He deserted the hospital because he wanted to return to his home in Cold Mountain.
	He loved Ada.
	He encountered many different situations throughout his journey that were both good and bad.
	He changed in many ways because of the conflicts that he had gone through.
	He finally gets together with Ada.
	Ironically, Inman gets killed by a young man, when the reader thinks that he will live happily ever after.

Ada

	Ada was the daughter of a clergyman named Monroe.
	She was well educated.
	She grew up in Charleston, South Carolina.
	She needed Ruby to teach her how to survive, after her father had died.
	She was in love with Inman.
	In the epilogue, we learned that Inman and Ada had a daughter.

Ruby

	She was the daughter of Stobrod.
	Was sent by the Swangers to help out Ada on the farm to teach her responsibilities to live on her own.
	Very wise and brave person.
	Extremely hard worker.
	She was in her early 20’s.
	She was a very independent person because her father deserted her when she was a child.
	In the epilogue, she had two children with the Georgia Boy.
