
Dr. Linda Marcel is a full professor at Bergen Community College,
1987-present. In addition to her
teaching responsibilities, she serves as the coordinator of the music
discipline, and manages the applied music program at the college. She is the founder of the Paul Marshall
Memorial Scholarship; a foundation scholarship that sponsors one
student per year majoring in music at Bergen Community College. She is the co-director of the Distinguished
Artist Series, a bi-annual program featuring internationally acclaimed
musicians. Annual performances include: Ars Nova
(2000- present) a series exploring thematic music presentations such as 20th
century American music composition, jazz, and world music, and Ars Electronica (2000-present)
a series that explores 21st century music presentations
using multi-media and electronic music.
Performances are held at Bergen Community College and New York
University. Her publications include a
text for music appreciation, Discover the Power of Music Listening. She has presented at the National
Conference of the College Music Society, on the topic: The Bergen
Community College Music Program–Positioned to Reflect a Global 21st
Century Perspective. Quebec City, Canada November 2005.
She received her Doctorate
in Music Education from Columbia University, a Master of Music degree was
completed with Distinction from Crane School of Music, State University of New
York, Potsdam and a Bachelor of Music degree from Brigham Young
University. She is married, with one
daughter. She was awarded the National
Institute for Staff and Organizational Development-(NISOD) Excellence in Teaching
Award 2005, and was chosen for the Princeton University Mid-Career Fellowship
Program 2005-2006. Her name and
biography appears in the Marquis Who’s Who Publications Board: Who’s Who of American Women, 2006-2007.
