This page will provide information on NUR 183, Basic Concepts and Skills of Nursing. Basic Concepts and Skills opf Nursing is a foundation course in the nursing program. Concepts and Skills
developed throughout the program are introduced. Orem’s nursing model is presented as the organizing framework of the curriculum. The nursing process is introduced as a problem solivng technique.
Students will be required to incorporate both skills and physical assessment techniques in the clinical laboratory. Students will plan and implement nursing care in a variety of health care setting.
Evaluation
Course grade is determined by:
- 3 tests which will equal 80% of the grade
- Cumulative final exam which will equal 20% of the grade
- A minimum grade of 75% in theory content
- Successful validation of all tested skills
- Passing in clincal lab
Clinical Grade
- Grades of pass and fail are given for the clinical laboratory
- Satifactory completion of a minimum of 2 nursing care plans, 1 process recording and weekly assessments
- Participation in a community health agency
A failure in theory OR clinical OR skills will result in an “F” grade for NUR 183
