Textbooks/Supplies/Resources:

·         We will make extensive use of a set of online tutorials (freely available at http://multimedia.journalism.berkeley.edu/tutorials/

·         4GB (or larger) USB flash drive (multimedia projects can be VERY large!).

·         Headphones.  Do NOT purchase this item till we have had a chance to discuss what is needed in class.  Suitable equipment can be obtained for very moderate cost ($10-$20).  You may already own a set of headphones that will work fine (bring them in and let's try them out!).

·         This course is Moodle supported.  Exams, quizzes and assignments will be submitted electronically.

Software.  We will use a variety of software packages in this course.  Which particular packages you use depends on the particular projects you select.

Assessment.  Two exams, quizzes, class work/homework and a final project will be used to assess your progress in this course.

Quizzes and Tests.  Each of the two exams consists of a web-based multiple-choice exam (usually about 50-60 questions) and a hands-on skills test.  All quizzes are web-based and extra-credit and will be based upon lectures, labs and/or reading assignments.  At the end of the term, an overall quiz average will be calculated, divided by 20 and added to your overall grade average.  Thus, extra-credit quizzes can add as much as 5% to your overall grade.  Please note the windows of time during which tests and quizzes are open (available in Moodle).

Class work/homework.  Exercises are shown below in the calendar and will also be posted on Moodle.  Please note the due dates.

Submission of assignments.  You will be issued a Moodle account for this course at the beginning of the semester.  All assignments will be posted on Moodle and must be submitted via Moodle.  We will set up and learn how to use Moodle accounts in class.  In some cases, hardcopy printouts of your work may be required.
