The approaches to literacy issues are so varied, from a focus on teaching correct usage to broader discussions of language and power that it is good to see where some of these discussions may be headed

 1.  Literacy 2000:  Issues, Trends & Recommendations.  {AltaVista}  This article focuses on Guilford County, North Carolina, and is not specific to ESL issues, but it does provide a look at how broad the definition of "literacies" has become at the end of the 20th century.

 2.  Literacy Volunteers of America.  Contains a synopsis of their definition of and services for literacy.

 3.NIFL-ESL.  An e-mail forum about adult ESL literacy, sponsored by the National Institute for Literacy. This is a series of on-line discussions by teachers.

 4.  Literacy Online—Research.  Contains a list of far-ranging articles that link literacy and ESL.

 5.  Using Internet Resources to teach ESL.  A compendium of suggestions.

 6.  Media Literacy Project.  Support for teachers, and others, concerned with the influence of media in the lives of children and youth.

 7. US Department of Education Homepage. Comprehensive includes listing of latest US DOE initiatives. A wealth of other resources can be found here.
