Literacy issues
affect beginning ESL readers of English. Although Most ESL teachers have extensive training in ESL methods, they may not have a background in literacy. This site
contains links to resources and model programs which address the very special needs of this population. In addition the site contains links to related issues which affect ESL students such as special learning needs, ESL in content area classes, and broad social issues.
This site is an ongoing work in progress. I welcome your suggestions for useful links to be added. I am grateful
to Bergen Community College, which supported the development of this site during my sabbatical leave. Both Michael Redmond, Dean of Arts and Humanities and Roanne Angiello, Vice President for Academic Affairs, strongly supported and encouraged my electronic dissemination of this project. In addition, special thanks to Bob Freud, Coordinator of the BCC Center for Instructional Technology for his web assistance.
