How do I find information on a company? - its history and background? Where/how should I begin?
1. Hoovers is a good starting point because it provides the headquarters and other addresses, a company profile, stock prices, corporate officers, and links to the company's web page with their annual report. It is also a source of financial data including sales, profits and ratios.
2. International Directory of Company Histories: (REF HD 2721 .D36)
provides a two or three page capsule history of public, private, and nonprofit businesses worldwide plus a bibliography for additional information. Check the cumulative index in the latest volume to locate information on a company.
3. Industry Norms and Key Business Ratios (REF HF 5681 .R25. I525)
includes statistics on over 800 lines of business by SIC code. The 14 ratios provide analysis of the financial workings of a business. Comparing a company with others in the same industry is one method of evaluating its financial status. The Library also has

4. Standard & Poor's Industry Surveys (REF HC 106.6 .S74)
provide an overview and forecast for each of 52 industries. It includes market share and stock analysis of the major companies in each industry. These are updated twice a year and the company index makes it very easy to find information.
5. Market Share Reporter (REF HC 106.8 .M3)
is an annual compilation of market share data by company, product, and service reported in trade magazines and websites. The detailed indexes make it simple to access the references.
