    NJ/NY area job ads

  1. Careerbuilder.com   Job ads from over 70 newspapers around the country with resources for designing resumes and dealing with the job search in general.
  2. Craigslist.com   Comprehensive site for job advertisements as well as ads for cars, apartments, etc. in major cities around the country.
  3. North Jersey Jobs  Employment ads, resumes and cover letter writing, interviewing techniques and career planning.
  4. Star Ledger and Times    Easy menu access to jobs by category from eight New Jersey newspapers.
  5. New York Times Job Market    Provides information on job fairs, resumes, careers, salaries plus help wanted ads and an easy menu to select your career.

    State Government Jobs

  1. New Jersey Employment Resources  New Jersey Dept. of Personnel's list of  vacant positions  which is searchable by job title or by geographic region.
  2. New York Department of Labor   Click on "Find a Job" or "Job Fairs". 
  3. New York State Department of Civil Service  Information for Job Seekers, Employees, Retirees and HR professionals.
  4. NYC.gov - Working for NYC    New York City job opportunities, examinations, benefits, EEO policy.

   Federal Government Jobs

         Federal jobs are not generally advertised.  The following agencies have searchable databases of most of the jobs available in the Federal Government, although if you are interested in working for a particular agency it might be worth looking at the agency's home page on the Web to see if they have their own job listings there.
  1. USAJOBS - United States Office Of Personnel Management    "Official job site of the U. S. Federal Government."  Lists current job openings, general information and an online application for U.S. government jobs.  Tabs lead to veterans' information, forms, employer services and other information.
  2. Employment and Training Administration   Seeks to build  the labor market through training of the workforce and the placement of workers in jobs through employment services.
  3. Federal Jobs Digest   Reports on vacancies in more than 300 Federal agencies from the Office of Personnel Management.

   Comprehensive Career Sites on the Internet

  1. About's Career Planning  From planning to self assessment to recruiters and relocating - it covers all aspects.
  2. Awesome Library's Job Search Center  Includes many lists, resources, and papers on jobs and careers. 
  3. Careerjet   An employment search engine for United States and international jobs from company megasites.
  4. CareerJournal.com  From the publisher of the Wall Street Journal, this site includes articles from the newspaper, salary surveys, who's hiring, a place to post resumes, etc.
  5. CareerOneStop   List of state job banks, veterans and government job banks, and national private job banks and portals.
  6. Job-Hunt.org  Links for advice, news, resources by state or industry/profession, and popular articles.
  7. Jobweb  The National Association of Colleges and Employers site for job search advice for new college graduates with resume help, hiring forecasts and much more.
  8. Monster.com  A leading online source for career information.
  9. New York Public Library's Job Search Resources  Covers general and specialized job listings, career fairs, salary data, and company links.
  10. Quintessential Careers  A career and job seeking resource covering a variety of how-to topics.  When you click on Career Toolkit there is a long list of choices -  tutorials, resumes, and cover letters, salary negotiation, etc.
  11. Riley Guide  An extensive guide to employment opportunities and job resources.
  12. Vocational Information Center  Subject guide to vocational and technical career web resources.
  13. WetFeet.com  Another comprehensive umbrella site that includes companies, careers and industries, resume writing, internships, etc.
  14. Yahoo! HotJobs  Provides a search engine that searches "across the web" to find the right job by keyword, city/state/zip and category.  There are also categories to browse.
