Title: Senior Payroll Generalist

The Senior Payroll Generalist administers payroll activities of the centralized payroll department in carrying out the responsibility for payroll preparation/processing, tax reporting and payroll system maintenance, ensuring that all processes are executed appropriately and in a timely manner.  Additional responsibilities will include but are not limited to maintaining payroll information by collecting, calculating, and entering data; updating  payroll records by entering changes in exemptions, insurance coverage, and savings deductions; preparing summary reports by compiling earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and nontaxable wages information; preparing pension filings, banking activity, general ledger journal entries; ensuring adherence to all government tax codes and regulations, employment contracts and generally accepted accounting principles; assisting with payroll quarterly/yearly tax filings (941, 940); determining payroll liabilities by calculating employee federal and state income and social security taxes and employer's social security, unemployment, and workers compensation payments; preparing reports; collecting and analyzing information to resolve payroll discrepancies; acting as front line customer service for employees and answering questions, handling requests, and resolving payroll issues and discrepancies; preparing and issuing paychecks; maintaining employee confidence and protecting payroll operations by keeping information confidential; performing  additional tasks or duties as assigned.


Required:  Associate and/or Bachelor’s degree in business or accounting required.  Minimum of 5+ years of experience working in a Payroll function.  Must possess knowledge of payroll practices and procedures.  Must possess basic proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite; experience with Ellucian Colleague preferred.  Must be a self-starter, able to manage multiple deadlines in a fast paced environment with minimal supervision; must exhibit strong skills in customer & student focus, building relationships, organizing and planning; must possess a strong level of interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with ability to work with diverse population; must have well rounded understanding of human resources interfaces, and college faculty.
