The Senior Financial Accountant performs daily journal entries, financial reporting and analysis; researches, analyzes and explains variances and resolves related inquiries; prepares periodic management reporting of financial results; executes statistical analysis of cash flow; monitors and evaluates cash flow for appropriateness to ensure fiscal solvency and accountability and creates reports of spending, accounts receivable and analysis. Additional responsibilities will include but are not limited to performing general financial reporting and analysis of student accounts; assembling all Financial Reporting requirements packages; preparing analysis reports; auditing and posting proposed entries and maintaining chart of accounts; performing complex reporting for internal office departments and programs; preparing, reviewing and completing month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing process and documents; monitoring accounts receivable and accounts payable; reviewing financial reports on a periodic basis and verifying accuracy and fiscal solvency; participating in evaluating internal controls and procedures; assisting in system enhancements and reporting for improved processes; furnishing complex financial reports as mandated by the administration, New Jersey Department of Education, and other agencies; formulating and monitoring timelines to meet strict deadlines in reporting regulations; reviewing grant letters, scholarship funding and entitlement reports; reviewing and verifying statistical and financial information including independent audit reports and long-term debt documents; assisting with design and implementation of system enhancements and reports; performing additional tasks or duties as assigned.
Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Minimum of 5 years of related experience; background with institution of higher education a strong plus. Requires knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and procedures in governmental agencies; Standardized Account Code Structure (SACS); use and application of online accounting systems; standard software applications related to financial applications; advanced accounting theory; administration, statistical methods, technical writing, and related record keeping. Must have intermediate level proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office suite; experience with Ellucian Colleague preferred. Must be a self-starter, with ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast paced environment with minimal supervision; must exhibit strong skills in customer & student focus, building relationships, organizing and planning; must possess a strong level of interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with ability to work with diverse population.
