This web site brings together artists from Colombia and the United States in the presentation of a multimedia concert event focused upon Desplazamiento (displacement). During the past year I received a Fulbright Senior Specialist award in the field of U.S. Studies in my specialty of music composition and multimedia. The University of Javeriana in Bogotá, Colombia requested and invited me to work with their students and faculty in the development of an interdisciplinary program integrating music, animation, dance, and drama, with an emphasis on interactive technology.

This project will stress collaborations across disciplines integrating research on cultural, political, and social issues as they relate to the problem of Desplazamiento. The leftist rebels (the guerilla forces) and the right -wing paramilitary in Colombia have been forcibly moving villagers from their homes and creating massive problems of relocation within Colombia. This situation has existed for the past 41 years and has created enormous problems for the people who have been moved from their homes into areas of Colombia where there is little or no support for their living conditions. One of this program’s central features will be the exploration of the creative process within a community of students and scholars focused on this problem. The culmination of the program will be a completed live multimedia production in Bogotá, Colombia in March 2006 featuring the works of students and faculty from Javeriana University.
