Bergen Students Win Scholarships


Idel SantiagoBergen Community College student Idel Santiago (R) of Lodi receives the Adam Feigenbaum Award for Merit from Bergen Community College graduate, Adam Feigenbaum, at the Fourth Annual Bergen Community College Scholarship Awards Ceremony, May 27. The Adam Feigenbaum Award is presented annually in recognition of meritorious academic efforts.









Jerome PrescodBergen Community College student Jerome Prescod (L) of Hackensack receives the RAS Technology Mentor Service award from Khaira Fazal, coordinator of the Bergen Community College Tutoring Center, at the Fourth Annual Bergen Community College Scholarship Awards Ceremony, May 27. The RAS Technology Mentor Service awards are given annually to recognize efforts put forth by students who mentor or tutor fellow students in technology courses offered at Bergen Community College. The scholarship, sponsored by Bergen Community College Professor Robert A. Saldarini, encourages more students to serve as mentors in support of Information Technology designated programs and certificates.









Joanne MekawiBergen Community College student Joanne Mekawi (L) of Saddle Brook receives the Wilton T. Barney Memorial Scholarship award from Wilton T. Barney’s daughter, Carol Barney Chandler at the Fourth Annual Bergen Community College Scholarship Awards Ceremony, May 27. The award is named in memory of one of the founding fathers of Bergen Community College, Wilton T. Barney. It is awarded each year to a student who has exhibited a commitment to community service and academic excellence.








Delta Dental Scholarship WinnersSix Bergen Community College students received awards from the Delta Dental Foundation Scholarship Fund at the Fourth Annual Bergen Community College Scholarship Awards Ceremony, May 27. The recipients (From L-R) are Jheny Basta of North Bergen, Mina Zandkarimi of Ramsey, Edith Otero of Passaic, Michele Chizmadia-Kenyon of Garfield, Susana Bodossian of Franklin, Delta Dental Representative Bea Buccos, and Marina Chicas of West New York.

(Bud) D’Alessandro Endowed Memorial Scholarship Award
from Bud D’Alessandro’s son, Michael, at the Fourth Annual Bergen Community College Scholarship Awards Ceremony, May 27. The fund, named in memory of longtime Bergen Community College Board of Trustees member Bud D’Alessandro, provides an annual award for a resident of Bergen County attending Bergen Community College who plans to major in business.








Cindy StinsonBergen Community College student Cindy Stinson (L) of Hasbrouck Heights receives the
A&A Ridgewood Professional Nurses Association Scholarship Award from Bergen Community College Nursing professor, Janet Rubino, at the Fourth Annual Bergen Community College Awards Ceremony, May 27. Stinson also won the Denise Roswell Nursing Scholarship award.
The A&A Ridgewood Professional Nurses Association, Inc. Scholarship is awarded to a full or part-time, day or evening nursing student who has completed a minimum of 15 credits in his or her program with a 3.0 or greater grade point average, and is an independent and critical thinker who demonstrates maturity. The Denise Roswell Nursing Scholarship provides an annual award for a returning female nursing student with children, needing financial assistance and exhibiting clinical excellence.






Yaping Huang-PerezBergen Community College student Yaping Huang-Perez (R) of North Arlington receives the Joseph A. Martucci Scholarship Award from Mrs. Joseph Martucci at the Fourth Annual Bergen Community College Scholarship Awards Ceremony, May 27. The award is named in memory of longtime faculty member, Joseph Martucci. The selected recipient must be a Bergen Community College student, who is studying accounting or business management and has a need and willingness to learn.








 


 


Ethel Burns ScholarshipBergen Community College student Sherry Lewis (L) of Englewood receives the Ethel Burns Endowed Scholarship for the Blind and Visually Impaired award from Tracy Rand, Rehabilitation Employment Specialist with the Office of Specialized Services, at the Fourth Annual Bergen Community College Scholarship Awards Ceremony, May 27. Ethel Burns was the first visually impaired student to graduate from Bergen Community College. She created the scholarship for other students with vision loss.








Madinah CampbellBergen Community College student Madinah Campbell (L) of Paterson receives the Kenneth Edelson Endowed Scholarship award from Kenneth Edelson’s son Andrew at the Fourth Annual Bergen Community College Scholarship Awards Ceremony, May 27. This fund, named in memory of longtime Bergen Community College Foundation Board member, Kenneth Edelson, provides an annual award for a focused student with a GPA of 3.0 or greater.








Monica CarranzaBergen Community College student Monica Carranza (R) of Dumont receives the Louis Girshon Memorial Scholarship award from BCC Alumna of the Class of 1987, Khairia Fazal at the Fourth Annual Bergen Community College Scholarship Awards Ceremony, May 27. The fund provides an award for a student who has emigrated from another country to Bergen County and is currently a resident alien or new U.S. citizen. The recipient must have successfully completed a minimum of 6 credit hours at Bergen Community College, have a GPA of 3.0 and demonstrate established goals for the future.








Jorge Blanco Memorial ScholarshipBergen Community College students Francie Forteau (L) and Antoinettea P. Ferrer (R) both of Hackensack receive the Jorge Blanco Memorial Scholarship award from widow and Bergen Community College Foundation Board Member, Joan Blanco at the Fourth Annual Bergen Community College Scholarship Awards Ceremony, May 27. The fund provides awards for minority students who are studying either full or part-time with an open degree focus, are entering their second year of study with a minimum GPA of 3.0, and have a recommendation from the Counseling Department.






David and May Bogen Fund AwardBergen Community College students Ankurika Patel (L) of Palisades Park and Aygul Akbulut (R) of Dumont receive the David and May Bogen Fund Award from David L. Levinson, Vice President of Academic Affairs at the Fourth Annual Bergen Community College Scholarship Awards Ceremony, May 27. The fund provides an award for a deserving student carrying a minimum 12 credits with a GPA of 3.0 or greater.







 


Indian-Americans of Paramus, Inc.  ScholarshipBergen Community College students Urvashi Paghdal of Maywood (R) and Sandeep Patel (L) of Bergenfield receive the Indian-Americans of Paramus, Inc. Scholarship award from Fund President, Moukesh Malkan at the Fourth Annual Bergen Community College Scholarship Awards Ceremony, May 27. The Indian-Americans of Paramus, Inc. Scholarship fund provides an annual award to one or more Bergen Community College students who are of Indian descent, exhibit economic need, are actively involved in community service, and exhibit academic excellence.







 


Bergen Community College Student Chenda Keorasmey (L) of Mahwah receives the PSE&G Scholarship award from Hispanic Institute Executive Director, Emilio Fandino at the Fourth Annual Bergen Community College Scholarship Awards Ceremony, May 27. The fund provides an annual award for a deserving student studying math, science or technology with a desire to have a career in business upon graduation.











Mary-Rose CarrilloBergen Community College student Mary-Rose Carrillo of Teaneck receives The Rink Scholarship from Foundation Board Member Bob Dill (L) and his wife, Marianne (R). The fund, established by the owners of The Rink in Montvale, provides an award for a deserving student attending Bergen Community College.









Dr. Sidney Silverman ScholarshipBergen Community College students Berna Saka-Kocakulak (R) and Alvaro Vasquez of Clifton receive the Dr. Sidney Silverman Scholarship award from Bergen Community College President, Dr. Judith K. Winn (L) at the Fourth Annual Bergen Community College Scholarship Awards Ceremony, May 27. The fund is named in memory of Bergen Community College’s first president, Dr. Sidney Silverman. It provides unrestricted awards for full or part-time students.





Dr. Audrey Stephan Nursing ScholarshipBergen Community College Student Emetina S. Dimas (L) of Bergenfield receives the Dr. Audrey Stephan Nursing Scholarship award from Fund Representative, Janet Rubino at the Fourth Annual Bergen Community College Scholarship Awards Ceremony, May 27. The fund, named in memory of longtime nursing faculty member Dr. Audrey Stephan, provides an award for an evening nursing student exhibiting financial need, dedication to the field of nursing and a GPA of 2.75 or greater.

Levinson at the Fourth Annual Bergen Community College Scholarship Awards Ceremony, May 27. The fund provides scholarships for full and part-time students who have completed 15 or more credit hours at Bergen Community College.

Ciccone Endowed Scholarship award from Dr. Richard Ciccone at the Fourth Annual Bergen Community College Scholarship Awards Ceremony, May 27. The fund provides an annual scholarship for a student of Italian Heritage who has completed a minimum of 12 credits at Bergen Community College with a
GPA of 3.0 or greater.










Bergen Community College Student Natalie Molina (L) of Hackensack receives the Hispanic Institute Scholarship award from Executive Director of Hispanic Institute, Emilio Fandino at the Fourth Annual Bergen Community College Scholarship Awards Ceremony, May 27. The scholarship provides awards for students who are Hispanic by birth or heritage, with a GPA of 3.0 for the previous year of college or high school.











 


Rona AbdullyBergen Community College Student Rona Abdully (L) of Palisades Park receives the Leo Foundation Restricted Scholarship award from President of the Leo Foundation, John Gambro and his wife, Rose, at the Fourth Annual Bergen Community College Scholarship Awards Ceremony, May 27. The fund provides an award for a single parent with young children who is attending Bergen Community College full or part-time, maintains a GPA of 4.0, and is planning to continue their education at a 4-year institution.






Dorothy P. Romaine Evening NursingBergen Community College Students Stacy-Ann Philbert (L) of Hackensack and Carolle Sluszniak (R) of Mahwah receive the Dorothy P. Romaine Evening Nursing Scholarship award from Vice Chair of the Bergen Community College Board of Trustees, Dorothy P. Romaine at the Fourth Annual Bergen Community College Awards Ceremony, May 27. The awards are given to duly enrolled evening nursing students who have completed sixteen credits in their program with a 3.0 GPA or greater. In addition, recipients must be independent and critical thinkers who have exhibited a demonstrated maturity.

CollegisBergen Community College Students Naysha Almodovar (L) of Elmwood Park and Joelisio Dos Anjos of Hasbrouck Heights receive the Collegis One-Year Scholarship award from Executive Director of the Collegis Office of Information Technology, Van Buren Winston (R) at the Fourth Annual Bergen Community College Awards Ceremony, May 27. The Scholarship provides one-year awards for students majoring in Computer Science or Information Systems who have completed a minimum of 15 credits and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

The Scholarship provides awards for current Bergen Community College Students exhibiting financial need and a Grade Point Average of 3.0 or greater.

The Scholarship provides awards for current Bergen Community College Students who have completed at least one semester in the school’s nursing program, have demonstrated good clinical skills, have a GPA of 3.0 or greater, and have exhibited a desire to help and aid others.
