Minutes of Meeting of October 7, 2003 (Room C-316)

1. The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Kevin Sullivan at 2:40 PM.
2. The minutes of the meeting of April 8, 2003, were reviewed and approved by voice vote.
3. The election of a new Chairperson of the Representative Assembly was conducted. There was one nomination, for Kevin Sullivan, and vote was 21-0-0 in the affirmative.
4. Guest Dennis Testa made a presentation on an important legislative matter concerning postretirement medical benefits. He urged BCCFA members to send letters to designated NJ state legislators on this issue. (For details, see www.bergen.edu/bccfa. 5. Discussion of the BCCFA dues structure: overall structure; possibility of rebates of surplus funds to high dues payers. Agreed that discussion should be continued at a subsequent meeting.
6. Discussion of various issues and proposals for contract negotiations in 2003-2004: Professor Gregg Biermann, a guest, was granted permission to speak. He and others then debated various proposals for an overall reduction of faculty workload. Agreed that discussion should continue at the next RA meeting, which was set for Tuesday, November 4, 2003, beginning at 2:40 PM.
7. The meeting was adjourned at 3:40 PM.
