Minutes of Meeting of December 3, 2002 (Room C-316)

BCCFA Executive Committee
Officers Present: Peter Helff, President; Denise Jerman, Vice President; Alan

1. The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Kevin Sullivan at 2:40 PM.
2. The minutes of the meeting of October 8, 2002, were reviewed and approved without objection.
3. Peter Helff presented a report on current state actions concerning the PERS retirement system. He also reported on developments in the Retired Health Benefits program.
4. There was discussion of how members of the College are perceiving the impact of the nascent BCC AFT chapter on the BCCFA.
5. It was agreed that RA representatives should discuss with their constituencies the following proposals:
a. An amendment to the BCCFA Constitution requiring all Association members to pay their annual dues via payroll deduction (this arising from a persistent trend among some BCCFA members to withhold their dues payments beyond the times allotted in the present Constitution).
b. A proposal that the BCCFA negotiating team should, in the next cycle of contract negotiations (AY 2003-2004), seek an agreement from the College declaring BCC an "agency shop" (thus requiring all who are represented by the BCCFA – members or not – to pay dues to the Association).
RA representatives are to report back to the RA on these constituency discussions at the RA meeting in February 2003.
6. Chairperson Kevin Sullivan discussed various aspects and vehicles of the BCCFA's communications with its members: (1) the duty of RA representatives to report back to their constituencies on a regular and timely basis; (2) the new BCCFA website (www.bergen.edu/bccfa); and (3) the BCCFA Newsletter.
7. The meeting was adjourned at 3:40 PM.
