1.   Minutes of April 5, 2005 meeting approved without objection.

2.   Election was held for Chair of the Representative Assembly. Richard Comerford was unopposed and was elected as new Chairperson.

3.   Peter Helff spoke on the State of the Union. He informed the members of the threatening letter that was sent to members of the executive committee by the college attorney in the aftermath of our email regarding the recent Faculty Conference; of the Unfair Labor Practice that has been filed against the BCCFA; about our right not to work on national holidays such as Columbus Day and Veterans’ Day; about the new hybrid course agreement and a recent hybrid course being set at forty-two, and about his attempts to get fair compensation for the aggrieved faculty member. He then spoke about the importance of endorsing and then supporting Dennis Testa in his race for the State Assembly in District 39; he asked for volunteers to man the phone banks, and indicated that Ed Novak is coordinating this effort.

4.   The RA endorsed, in the upcoming elections:

Dennis Testa—Assembly, District 30

David Ganz and Bernadette McPherso—Bergen County Freeholders

John Corzine—Governor

5.   Old Business:

o       Joan Cohen brought forth a proposal from members of the Library to make the President of the BCCFA and the Chairperson of the Faculty Senate permanent members of the College Wide Promotion and Sabbatical Leave Committee. Questions were raised about what would happen if one person occupied both positions, as happened in the past when Neil Ender held both posts simultaneously. A motion was made, and passed, that Joan would take the proposal back and work on an order of succession and bring the proposal back to the RA.

o       Francis Schmidt brought forth a proposal from the BCCFA sub-committee on load reduction to reduce teaching load to 12 hours/semester. For faculty to select this option, they would have to forego the right to overload in both the academic and summer semesters. Questions were raised about the proposal, and it was sent back to the committee for revision. It will be brought back to the RA when revisions have been made.

6.   Adjournment: 1:30 pm.
