BCCFA Executive Committee Officers Present: Peter Helff, President; Steven Ryan, Vice President; George Cronk, Secretary
1. The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Kevin Sullivan at 2:40 PM.
2. The minutes of the meetings of November 7, 2000, and December 12, 2000, were reviewed and approved without objection.
3. There was discussion of the current BCC search process. The Representative Assembly passed the following resolution:
“The Representative Assembly of the Bergen Community College Faculty Association hereby advises members of the BCC faculty to cease participation in any and all search committee activities until such time as the BCC administration permits search committees to disclose salary ranges to prospective candidates for positions at the college.”
Passed: 19-0-1
4. There was discussion of staffing problems in various disciplines, especially the difficulty that some department chairs and coordinators have in finding qualified and competent faculty to cover certain classes. The Representative Assembly passed the following resolution:
“The Representative Assembly of the Bergen Community College Faculty Association hereby endorses the right of department chairs (and coordinators, where applicable) to cancel classes for any given semester in the event that said chairs (and coordinators) cannot find suitable, qualified, and competent faculty coverage for such classes.”
Passed: 20-0-0
5. BCCFA President Peter Helff reported on a number of statewide and local legal and political issues affecting the interests of the BCCFA membership -- legislation to protect certain pension benefits; medical coverage issues arising from conflict between Blue Cross/Blue Shield and Workers’ Compensation claims; issues relating to the BCC program in Wellness and Exercise Science and in intercollegiate sports; NJEA strategy in the upcoming Republican primary elections.
6. The meeting was adjourned at 3:40 PM.
