Mission Statement

The radiography program sponsored by Bergen Community College is committed to providing our students with a professional education in diagnostic imaging. The cooperative effort between our faculty and students creates an essential climate for development of clinical competency and a multiplicity of other professional skills. Throughout the student’s education in our program, the profession’s ethical principles and practices are introduced and reinforced.
Radiography Program Goals.

Philosophical Statement

The educational program structure for Bergen Community College’s Associate of Applied Science degree in Radiography has three major areas of concentration: (a) liberal arts and sciences, (b) radiography core courses and (c) clinical education.

The liberal arts, science, and professional components focus on theoretical studies and principles, while the clinical education component concerns itself with its application, as well as the development of sound professional and ethical practices. When students begin the clinical education phase of any allied health profession, it is in many ways the entrance into a “new world” a world of policies, regulations, and customs. It differs in many respects from those they have confronted in their lives to this point.

Student radiographers have a great personal investment in their education and training. In light of this commitment, the Bergen Community College Radiography Program created its policies in order to provide our students [and eventually our graduates] a smooth transition in becoming contributing professional members of the health care team, with their primary purpose being two-fold: the welfare of patients and perpetuation of professional standards

The Bergen Community College Radiography program is accredited with the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology and the New Jersey Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners. This ensures that our graduates will be eligible for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists certification examination in Radiography.

Upon Completion of the program, our students will be able to:

  • Deliver professional and compassionate care for all patients.
  • Communicate professionally.
  • Use critical thinking skills when problem solving.
  • Perform diagnostic imaging examinations competently.
  • Practice in the legal and ethical framework of the profession.
  • Seek activities for continued professional development.
  • Meet the needs of the diverse community.
