A.A. Dance

Students will:

  • be  able  to  demonstrate  competence  in  the  major  forms  of  theatrical  dance:  ballet,  modern,  jazz,  tap,  and  period  dance.
  • demonstrate they possess the discipline  required  to  work  in  a  professional  setting  through  having  experienced  the  demands  of  rehearsal  schedules  and  the  run  of  each  show.
  • be  able  to  adapt  choreography  in  order  to  work  in  proscenium,  three-quarter  arena,  and  full  arena  settings.
  • perform  social  dances  from  different  historical  periods  as  well   as  the  contemporary  musical  theatre. 
  • comprehend and appreciate the technical, backstage,  and  design  elements  of  theatre  by   having  worked  in  various  technical  capacities  in  the  Theatre  Department.
  • will  have  the  knowledge  and  technique  to  compete  in  the  field  of  dance  and  to  continue  their  training  in  a  professional  dance  program  either  at  a  four-year  college  and  graduate  school  or  at  a  studio.

†If a student's first-semester Mathematics elective is a 3-credit course, then s/he is required to select a second 3- or 4-credit elective in the second semester in Mathematics or Computer Science or Information Technology; and if a student's first-semester Mathematics elective is a 4-credit course, then s/he is required to take a 3-credit Free Elective in the second semester (which may be a second Mathematics elective).
