Peter Furlan is an saxophonist, composer, arranger and educator whose striking originality is demonstrated on his Twinz Records release Peter Furlan - Spy Glass Hill. In addition to leading The Peter Furlan Project, his own trio, quintet and Peter Furlan/Neil Alexander Trio, he has performed and recorded with Terumasa Hino, Dizzy Gillespie, Thomas Chapin, Don Alias, Frank Foster, Brian Lynch, David Budway, John Hart, Mike Richmond, Terry Silverlight, Cameron Brown, Vinnie Cutro, Steven Bernstein, Mahavishnu Project, The Temptations, 10,000 Maniacs, The Four Tops and many others. Accordingly, the diversity of these musical experiences has served to inform Peter's comprehensive and eclectic creative palette.
A New York native currently living in Congers, N.Y., Pro. Furlan studied with Jackie McLean and Paul Jeffrey at Hartt Conservatory of Music and Rutgers University. In the 1990's he studied composition with Jim McNeely and received his masters in jazz composition from New York University.
He is currently affiliated with a variety of educational programs in New York and New Jersey. He is the founder, artistic director and conductor of the Rockland Youth Jazz Ensemble in Congers, NY, professor at Bergen Community College since 2003, the jazz ensemble director and ProTools instructor for Bergen Catholic High School in Oradell, NJ, board member of the Rockland County Jazz and Blues Society, active member of the Rockland County Music Teachers Guild and a private music teacher with 29 years experience.
