Mary Clifford has been teaching theatre and speech at Bergen Community College since 1990. A member of Actors Equity Association and Dramatists Guild, Mary is an actress, director, and produced playwright. She is also the Artistic Director of The Illustrious Theatre Company in Warwick, N.Y., which presents both indoor productions and an outdoor Shakespeare production in the summer.
At BCC, Mary is The Theatre Club advisor. Several of the ongoing projects Mary initiated are The Annual Young Playwrights Festival of Bergen County, which will mark its 18th year next June, the popular Comedy Improv Night, which is presented by the club several times a year, and the annual Psychodrama Workshop, for which she and Professor Laura Ochoa won a NISOD Award for Teaching Excellence. In addition to teaching, she directs yearly as part of the student play season. Some of the many shows which she has directed at BCC include “Proof”, “I Hate Hamlet”, “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown”, “A Raisin in the Sun”, “Uncle Vanya”, “Chicago”, and “An Inspector Calls”, to name just a few. She received her MFA in Acting from Brandeis University.
Mary teaches Intro to Theatre, Basic Acting, Scene Study, Audition Technique, Directing for the Stage, Stage Makeup, Theatre Performance and Production (in rotation with professors within the theatre department), and Speech Communication.
