Faculty Interaction and Collaboration
Have at least one joint meeting each semester of full-time and part-time faculty.
Continue effort to develop a plan for more collaboration among faculty regarding the teaching process.
Continue effort to develop a plan for more collaboration among faculty regarding our own researchin philosophy and in religion(e.g., monthly meetings where we can discuss our work).
Continue effort to develop a plan for more collaboration between the PHR Department and other departments/programs (e.g., interdisciplinary courses, seminars, discussions on topics of mutual interest).
Student Learning and Development
Continue meetings with PHR majors and attempt to increase their involvement in Logos (the BCC Philosophy and Religion Club)and in other activities of the department.
Continue to cultivate and use student tutors in philosophy and religion. In AY10-11, we will continue to work to effect an increasinglyclose correlation between the needs of students and the tutorial services we provide to them. We will also continue our efforts to inform students of tutorial opportunities in philosophy and religion and to encourage them to use our tutors more regularly. Continue to encourage participation by (both full- and part-time) faculty in Logos meetings.
As in previous years, consider the bestowing of a departmental award for the best graduate(s) in philosophy or religion.
Course and Curriculum Development and Assessment
Develop an online version of PHR-110 Introduction to Ethical Theory, and additional online version of PHR-121 Religions of the World, and at least one additional partially online (hybrid) course (e.g., PHR-121). Offer these newly-developed courses in 2011FA.
Continue and complete other course-development projects, especially Classical Mythologies. If possible, offer that course in 2011SP or no later than 2011FA.
Continue the process of reviewing and updating on a regular basis PHR departmental course syllabi, especially on the basis of the department's recent Program Review.
