ALP GRAMMAR II, (051/052) is a course for students who have completed Grammar I or took the CELT and were placed in this level. It meets six hours a week, including one session in the
computer lab. Structures covered in Level I Grammar are reviewed thoroughly. New Level II tenses are the present perfect and the present perfect progressive. Also, more sophisticated
uses of the past progressive are taught. In addition to verb tense, we study modals, gerunds and infinitives, and the passive voice. At the end of the term, a student earns a grade based on the
average of tests and quizzes (95%) and the quality of the grammar journal (5%). Completed homework and class participation are expected. What is a grammar journal? It is an extra
assignment of 20 pages of writing, each of which concentrates on one grammar structure such as forms of "other," "already," "yet," and "still" with the present perfect, or adverbs of manner.
