Description: Correlation
of theoretical instruction and clinical experience
are the foundation in providing a job entry-level
in sonography. A strong didactic knowledge is
important in cross-sectional anatomy and physics.
Students practice their clinical skills in the
ultrasound lab at the college, and continue practicing
them throughout the two years. The program provides
the students with a competency based clinical
education. Students are trained to be clinically
independent by the end of each specialty rotation.
Sonographers may be
employed in various hospitals and offices in
different areas of medicine such as vascular,
ob/gyn, abdominal and cardiac sonography. Sonographers
may also become educators or decide to work
in sales. The sonographer needs to recognize
certain pathologies, have the ability to produce
these abnormalities and document them with quality
hard copy images. The sonographer should have
the essentials of intelligence, ability to relate
to people and strong patient care skills in
becoming a registered diagnostic medical sonographer.
